Photographic Happenstance
Expressing the arbritary nature of life through incidental images of people, places, and things…

Here's an image taken from the City Dock in Annapolis, Maryland from the end of the pier, looking into the United States Naval Academy. The big building with the dome-like roof is Halsey Field House, home of the infamous Halsey hack. Twice a year, midshipmen are required to take their physical readiness examinations, which consists of a strength portion (in my days, pushups, pull-ups, and curls) followed by a 1.5 mile run (passing was a 7 minute mile, or 10 mins, 30 seconds). In the winter, we ran the 1.5 mile run on the indoor track in Halsey Field House, where the air was VERY, VERY dry. The result??? The Halsey hack! Never understood why we couldn't just run on the outdoor track, since we all ran outside pretty much every day anyway. My favorite routine was to do an inner perimeter run (about 3.5 miles???), followed by at least 1000 meters of swimming. On alternating days, I would do an outer perimeter run (about 5 miles).
