Photographic Happenstance
Expressing the arbritary nature of life through incidental images of people, places, and things…

Armistice Day; the day was originally set aside to commemorate the end of "the war to end all wars", more commonly referred to as World War I. A couple wars later, Congress changed Armistice Day to Veteran's Day in 1954 to honor all U.S. veterans.

Here's a picture of the flag I took on top of the Metropolitan Square building in downtown Washington DC - it's the building that the Old Ebbit Grill is located in, across the street from the Treasury building. I felt that the flag was an appropriate image for Veteran's Day, since the flag follows military units everywhere (we fly it at sea, on posts and bases all around the globe, and often into battle as well). I'm quite sure every service member recalls those bugle calls well,
attention, followed by to the colors in the morning, and followed by retreat in the evening. Brings back memories of hearing those exact bugle calls on a crisp, autumn evening as the sun was setting while returning to the dormatory buildling on Stribling Walk at the United States Naval Academy...
